Composing and performing in Year 5

In Year 5 we have been learning about crotchets and quavers. We clapped different rhythms and talked about the timing and speed of the beat. We then used the correct notation to compose our own music. Finally, we played music on the glockenspiel whilst following and reading notation.

In year 5 we have been cooking Greek food as part of our design technology lessons. Having already created our own Greek style menu, we measured out the correct ingredients to make tzatziki (a savoury Greek yogurt dip). The children thoroughly enjoyed making this speciality and the taste was perfection. Yamas!

Year 5 have started their own chess club. While we have been learning this fun game, we have also been using our writing skills (imperative verbs, time connectives, subordinate clauses) to create a set of clear instructions to help others enjoy this game of strategy.

Year 5 have been using oil pastels to create their ancient vases. We took time to design our vase first, thinking about what the vase could be used for and what design would be on the vase itself. We made sure to think about how a historian would read our vase to tell us about past events.
