Reception begin the Walk for Water Challenge

Reception begin the Walk for Water Challenge

On Friday, we enjoyed talking about CAFOD’s Lent challenge – Walk for Water. We are taking part in the school challenge! On Monday, we were able to put some money into our class CAFOD collection box! We then had a chance to start walking towards our 2 miles! We are very pleased to say that we have already walked half a mile!

The first signs of spring!

The first signs of spring!

In Reception we have started looking at our new RE topic, growing! We have started by looking at and thinking about growing and the changes that we can see around us.

In our PE lesson we have created our own Spring dance, starting as bulbs and growing slowly into flowers.

In outdoor learning we enjoyed exploring our school grounds looking for the first signs of spring.

We then enjoyed planting our own cress seeds. We will continue to watch them grow over the next few weeks!

Over the next few weeks we are going to think about Lent and how it is a time for us to grow in special ways – in love, goodness, kindness and helpfulness. Lent is a special time for us to try and grow more like Jesus.

Sinking and Floating Experiment

Sinking and Floating Experiment

We really enjoyed our class experiment in science. On Friday, we were investigating which materials float and which sink. We thought about Stick Man being used by the girl in the story as a ‘pooh stick’ and how he floats out to sea! We tested many different materials and recorded our results in a table! We enjoyed predicting whether an object was going to sink or float!

Reception enjoyed reading and exploring the story of Stick Man last week. During outdoor learning the children spent time looking for the perfect stick and other resources to create their very own Stick Man! The children were thrilled with their finished products!

Youth Friday Collective Worship

Youth Friday Collective Worship

On Friday, the children from Reception and Year 4 gathered outdoors in the Gospel Garden to celebrate Youth Friday together. The theme of this year’s Youth Friday was ‘Together’. The children thought about lockdown, when we weren’t able to be together and the joy of being reunited. We have thought about how we keep in touch with our friends and family who we do not get to see. One way of being ‘together’ is when we pray. On Friday afternoons we gather as a school, in our bubbles, during Collective Worship time. We listened to a reading from the Book of Sirach that reminded us that our friends are special treasures. The children in year 4 prepared prayers for our Collective Worship. All of the children created their own rainbow to add to the focal point, This week we will all take a rainbow home to remind us that we can always be together in prayer and when listening to the word of God.
