In geography this term Year 2 are working on a topic called ‘Street Detectives’.
This week the children went out onto Stella Lane to look at the land use in our immediate school environment. The children were able ti find a restaurant, a detached house, terraced houses, a pond, Church, flats, semi detached houses and of course school.
There’s lots of things on Stella Lane!
When the children got back into class they used some photographs and tried to place this on a map of Stella lane. They were encouraged to use vocabulary such as; left, right, opposite, next to, in between, top and bottom.
In RE Year 2 have started a new thanksgiving topic. The children have thought carefully about times that they say thank you and the ways they can do this; saying it, giving a card, a gift, sending an email, being kind or being helpful.
The children then listened to a story from the Bible where Jesus gave thanks to God – the last supper. The children took part in a role play of the Last Supper. They reenacted exactly what Jesus said and did – they took the break, broke it and gave thanks to God saying ‘This is my body, broken for you. Take it and eat it.’ They then took the cup of wine, raise it up saying ‘ This is my life blood poured out for you, take it an drink it.’
The children discussed at the end of the role play that we remember this special meal every time we go to Church.
