Nursery Home Learning – Wednesday 6th January 2021

Good morning everyone!

I really wish we could all be together, I’m missing you all so very much already!  The topic we are looking at this half term is fairy tales.

Everyday over the next few weeks I’ll be setting you some work to complete at home. Please send all your completed tasks to smstnursery@gmail.com by 8pm tonight so I can see all of the the work you have done. Please send all of your work in one email. This will really help me! I will reply by the end of the day tomorrow.

Here are some jobs for you to do today:

Hello and Good Morning.  Let’s start our day together by watching this video.

Literacy – This week we are looking at the story of the Gingerbread Man.  If you have this book at home great, you could read that or alternatively you could watch the story here. Make sure you use your listening ears, sit still and enjoy the story.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U89dkGrsYZY

Next, I’d like you to design your own gingerbread man.  I’ve made a template for you to use.  Remember what colour his body is and to add the eyes, mouth, nose and buttons!  You can also add anything else to it, maybe you’d like to add some hair or trousers.  I’d love to see your finished gingerbread man, please email it to us at smstnursery@gmail.com.

6.1.21 – design a gingerbread man

Maths – Now I’d like you to get your dice and your gingerbread man we’re going to play a little counting game.  You’ll also need 6 buttons or something similar that will fit onto the gingerbread man.   Can you please roll your dice and count out the right numbers of buttons to add.  Well done!  Now move the buttons away.  Can you roll the dice again and put this number of buttons on?  Great work!  Here are some dice just in case you need them

Phonics – Today we’re going to experiment with voice sounds.

  • Do you know what whispering is?  Can you show me how to do it?  When would you whisper?  Would you do it when you’re talking to the teacher?  Would you do it when you’re trying to be quiet or noisy?
  • Can you tell me something by shouting?  When would you shout?  When would you not shout?  Would you do it when you’re talking to your mam?
  • Can you talk in a normal voice?  When would you not do this?
  • Would you shout or whisper “shhhhhh”?
  • Would you shout or whisper “HELP!”
  • Can you think of any other words you might whisper or shout?
  • Can you practise whispering for the next five minutes.

We all love cutting and sticking.  Please can you make a lovely card for your grown up by cutting out the gingerbread characters and sticking them onto a card.  Don’t forget you’ll need scissors, glue and some card for this.

6.1.21 – cutting and sticking

Can you use this link and join in with as many nursery rhymes as you can remember please.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/nursery-rhymes-20-minute-medley/zn2792p

For this next job, you’ll need a pencil, or maybe a coloured pen, you can use whatever you like.  Can you copy the patterns and make this gingerbread man look beautiful.

6.1.21 – pencil control

If you have any spare time this week, I’d like you to practise putting on and taking off your coat all by yourself.  Can you manage it?  Can you do the buttons or the zip yet?

We’re going to be making gingerbread men on Friday, so please can you make sure you have some ginger handy.

Have a lovely day children and stay safe!
