Reading online

We believe in nurturing children’s pleasure for reading as children who read on a regular basis, in school and at home, have a higher chance of fulfilling their academic potential and achieving success in later life.

We would like to share the below resources and websites that can be accessed by your children throughout their time taking part in remote learning at home or digitally at any time:

Oxford Owl eBook Library – Y1-6

We have access to the Oxford Owl eBook library. Go to www.oxfordowl.co.uk and click on Log in. Your child’s class teacher should have shared the username and password with your child. Once you have logged in, click on Oxford Owl eBook library and choose the appropriate age group for your child. Children can read any of the books from within that section. You can also search for specific books which your child’s teacher may share with you.

Borrowbox – Gateshead Library

We would also like to take this opportunity to remind you about Borrowbox, an online library service offered by Gateshead Library. It is a downloadable app on which your child can borrow up to 10 eBooks to read at home. This would be great for promoting reading for pleasure but also for ensuring that your child has access to a range high-quality books during the week at home. If your child is not already a member of Gateshead Library, you can join online and you are given log-in details to sign into the Borrowbox app. For more information and to join the library online, please visit https://www.gateshead.gov.uk/article/15271/eBooks-and-eAudio.

Letters and Sounds – Early Years and KS1 – Additional Phonics Lessons

If your child is in KS1, they will still be receiving phonics work. There is a good range of Letters and Sounds online videos arranged by year group and focus sounds available at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP_FbjYUP_UtldV2K_-niWw .
