At the beginning of Fairtrade Fortnight we presented an assembly to the school about Foncho which showed how little money farmers get for their bananas and why we should always try to buy Fairtrade bananas. This means that the farmers get a fair and stable price for their bananas and a Fairtrade premium to spend on improving the community.
Then on the Friday we had a Fairtrade Friday. We dressed in yellow to show our support for Foncho and spent the day learning about Fairtrade and making things with bananas. We, as the Fairtrade Committee went into each class collecting signatures from everyone. We sent 3 giant posters to the Fairtrade Foundation with 210 signatures in support of the “Stick with Foncho” campaign to make all supermarket bananas Fairtrade.
