Dear Parents and Carers,

As you are all aware St Mary and St Thomas Aquinas RC School has been closed to pupils and staff from Wednesday this week due to the adverse weather conditions we have been experiencing across the region. Closing a school is always a difficult decision to make, ensuring a balance between the safety of our school community along with the educational impact of our pupils.

Having visited Stella Lane at different points today, it remains barely passable and footpaths continue to have deep snow on them. Currently the Met Office website shows that snow is still forecast for the remainder of tonight and tomorrow, with a spell of heavy snow between eleven o’clock and midnight. An ‘amber weather warning’ is also still in place for tonight and tomorrow.  Despite the tireless work of staff over the past few days, the school grounds including footpaths also remain hazardous.

With all of this taken into consideration, it has been agreed that the school will remain closed tomorrow (2/03/18).

We fully appreciate the impact which school closures can have on families but with everything taken into consideration, the safety of our whole school community must come first. By making this decision now, we hope that it minimises any inconvenience caused.

We appreciate your patience over the past few days and thank you for your understanding regarding this matter.

Yours Sincerely,

Mr N Reeson.

Deputy Headteacher.
