Year 3 cook with Chef, Nick Fairley.

On Friday year 3 were lucky enough to spend their afternoon

with Chef Nick Fairley. Our class was split into two groups and

we looked at cooking a healthy and well balanced meal. This

week Chef was showing us how to make Chilli Con Carne.

MAnd so we washed our hands and donned our chef hats and

were ready to start cooking. Earlier in the week we had

already learnt about the different food groups such as dairy,

carbohydrates and fats thus we had a little head start when

it came to answering some of Chefs questions.

Chef explained what we were making and we finally got a

chance to show off our chopping skills! Some off us chopped

onion, some pepper and some celery among other vegetables.

The smells coming from the hall were amazing. When our

Chilli was almost ready Chef pulled out his ‘secret’ ingredient.

Dark Chocolate! We couldn’t believe that we were adding

chocolate to our Chilli!

We all had to try our Chilli but not with a spoon, with nacho

chips! We used them to scoop up the Chilli however we had

to make sure we didn’t double dip. It was delicious and Chef

Nick was impressed. We had such a fun afternoon and we

were lucky enough to be the first class to spend the afternoon

cooking with Chef.

N

We all want to say Thank you to Nick for helping us learn a

new recipe fitting for a healthy balanced diet.
