As it was the last Computing Club session, the children were asked what they would like to do. They decided to make a two player game so they could challenge each other. Using the Kodu software, the children built their own game platform making sure it was big enough for two players. After this, they added their game characters and other objects into their platform. Using the ‘when’ and ‘do’ statements ( which the children discovered were simply ‘if’ and ‘then’ statements) they coded one of their charatcers to move using the arrow and one to move using the WASD keys. Then, the real fun began. We got the MakeyMakey out and using a block of wood and some play dough we made a game pad for one of the players to use. The children had great fun making the game pad and using this to play against each other.
