Mini beast conservation

In year we really enjoy working outside. We also know how important it is to look after the outdoor environment ad the creatures living in it.

We carried out a survey of the different mini beasts living in our wildlife garden. We looked in places we thought would offer good shelter and food such as under logs and stones.

We also gently shook the tree branches and collected any creatures on white paper before carefully and safely returning them to their homes.

We carried out a similar survey in different locations around the school and found that there were not as many mini beasts.

We tried to encourage more wildlife to these areas ┬áby creating ‘bug hotels’ and food sources. We placed them around the school and left them for over a week.

When we returned, we found that there were many bugs living in the hotels and also much of the food had been eaten.
