Mountains and contours

Year 4 have been studying different kinds of maps. They noticed that the OS maps had many orange lines all over them. They found out that these lines were actually called contour lines and help us to understand the relief of the land.

They know that when the lines are very close together, there will be a steep incline in the land height.

The children went outside this week and made their very own mountains, they then drew their mountains as if they were on an OS map, using contour lines.

We even came up with names for our mountains!
