On Friday in year 4 we continued our work around poetry by looking at rhythm. We learned that rhythm is the pattern of stresses within a line of verse. All spoken word has a rhythm formed by stressed and unstressed syllables. We practised reading poems out loud and tapping the different rhythms on the table. From this we learned that the rhythms used in poetry set it apart from normal speech because it creates a tone for the poem and it can be used to generate emotions and change the way the reader reads it.
